Dr. Markus Leyh new Chief at the Sportklinik Hellersen

With Dr. Markus Leyh, the Sportklinik Hellersen has gained a new Chief for the Shoulder, Elbow, Knee Surgery and Traumatology Department. This new appointment means that a key position within the clinic has been filled from within its own ranks.

As the new Chief, Dr. Markus Leyh, who was born in Lüdenscheid, brings extensive experience with him: He has been a Consultant Physician in the Department of Shoulder, Elbow, Knee Surgery and Traumatology since 2011 and already took over as Section Head last winter. Dr. Markus Leyh is known for his patient-oriented approach, is an extremely experienced and meticulous joint surgeon and is characterized by his ability to successfully implement modern treatment methods in shoulder, elbow, knee surgery and traumatology.

His goal as Chief is to further develop the department and create an environment that both meets the highest medical standards and focuses on the individual care of each patient. At his side is Dr. Kerstin Hengstmann, who has returned to the specialist clinic for orthopaedics, trauma surgery, sports medicine and endoprosthetics as Managing Head of consultant.

"I am delighted to have found a fantastic Chief for the Shoulder, Elbow, Knee Surgery and Traumatology Department in Dr. Markus Leyh," says Dirk Burghaus, CEO of the Sports Clinic. "Dr. Markus Leyh is not only a long-standing and highly qualified doctor at our clinic, but also deeply connected to the city of Lüdenscheid. His remarkable commitment and medical expertise will be a decisive asset to our clinic."

Dr. Tobias Schmenn, Specialist Physician for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery, is also returning to Sportklinik Hellersen in a new role. After leaving the specialist clinic in 2022 to work as an orthopaedic surgeon at the Dortmund Prevention Center, he will now be working as Medical Operations Coordinator. In this position, he acts as an important interface between Sportklinik Hellersen and the affiliated medical care centers (MVZ). Dr. Schmenn is also one of the two team doctors for the German national women's soccer team. The medical care of the German women's soccer team by the doctors at Sportklinik Hellersen has a long tradition. Dr. Bernd Lasarzewski was the DFB women's team doctor for decades before handing over to Dr. Schmenn.
