Fit for the company run

ISG undergoes a sports medical examination at the Sportmedizin Hellersen

The Inclusive Sports Group (ISG) from Lüdenscheid is once again preparing intensively for this year's AOK company run in order to successfully represent the Johannes-Busch-Wohnverband. Before the big run, the participants underwent a comprehensive sports medical examination at the Sportmedizin Hellersen.

"Carrying out the stress test enables us to assess the participants' performance," says Dr. Ulrich Schneider, Head Physician at Sportmedizin Hellersen, explaining the sports medical examination. In addition to a detailed discussion in which possible complaints are clarified, this also includes measuring blood pressure, checking the pulse and carrying out an ECG both at rest and during exercise. "We also carried out spiroergometry and a lactate measurement with the majority of the group," explains Stefan Krakor, sports therapist at the Sportmedizin Hellersen, adding: "Last year, we largely refrained from doing this so as not to overload the participants and to familiarize them with the health check-up first. However, in view of the athletes' motivation last year, we went one step further this year." Spiroergometry measures breathing gases during exercise in order to analyze endurance performance and metabolism, while lactate measurement determines the lactate level in the blood and thus assesses the intensity of exercise and training status.

"Performance diagnostics is a win-win situation for us - both for preparing for the company run and for the three athletes, who are also preparing for the Special Olympics State Games in Münster with the LG Lüdenscheid athletics team," emphasizes Jens Kuhn from ISG. As an independent rehabilitation sports department within the Friends of the Johannes-Busch-Haus association, the ISG is committed to promoting the social participation of people with mental disabilities and mental illness through sport. Under the direction of Jens Kuhn, the ISG offers regular sports activities such as soccer, recreational sports, jogging and walking. Last year, the cooperation with the Turbo-Schnecken Lüdenscheid led to a collaboration with the Hellersen Sports Clinic.
