Special clinic invests in the future to actively counter the shortage of skilled workers
On December 1, three nursing students began their training as nursing specialists at the Sportklinik Hellersen. They are the first nursing students whose professional career has begun at the Sportklinik Hellersen. For the first time in the history of the special clinic, the institution itself is the training provider in the nursing field.
The clinic has been involved in promoting young talent since 2021 and is a partner of the Liebeskind Care Academy in Werdohl. In this way, trainee nurses were given the opportunity to complete sections of their practical assignments at the Sportklinik Hellersen. The further training of two employees as practical instructors in March finally paved the way for becoming a training provider itself. "By providing training in-house, we will actively counteract the shortage of skilled workers. It is an investment and an important component of our future-oriented clinic concept," explains Dirk Burghaus, Chairman of the Board of the Sportklinik Hellersen.
The three-year training program to become a nursing specialist includes alternating blocks of theoretical instruction at the nursing school and practical assignments at various nursing facilities such as hospitals and nursing homes. The first block initially takes place at the nursing school in Werdohl, before the first practical assignment follows at the Sportklinik Hellersen. However, the three trainees already spent their first day at the facility on Friday, December 2, in Lüdenscheid, in order to get to know the clinic and thus their training place in more detail as part of a facility day.
After all, this is where they will return for their practical training after the first block of lessons. "During this time, the trainees learn the basics, such as how to determine vital parameters and basic care, including care materials," explains Anja Häfner, head of nursing at the Sportklinik Hellersen. In a second practical assignment, which also takes place at the Sportklinik Hellersen, the trainees learn about acute care as well as types of prophylaxis, for example fall prophylaxis or how to prevent pressure sores and thrombosis. "An essential component of this basic training is, of course, patient observation. How are facial expressions and gestures to be interpreted, also with regard to pain assessment? What clues do skin color and skin condition provide? Our trainees deal with these questions right at the beginning of their apprenticeship years," reports Anja Häfner.
"We are pleased to welcome our new nursing students to the Sportklinik Hellersen and wish them a good start to their professional lives," says Dirk Burghaus.
